NORFOLK EDUCATION FOUNDATION ELECTS NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
The Norfolk Education Foundation (NEF) is proud to announce and welcome Karen Tanner as the new Executive Director of the Norfolk Education Foundation. In this new role, she will be responsible for leading the NEF in fund development, building partnerships with businesses and the community to drive investment back into public education.
Karen Tanner is a communications professional with over 22 years of strategic communications, promotions, marketing, fundraising, grants, and management experience with an emphasis in school communications, nonprofit management, leadership, and board development. She served as Norfolk Public Schools’ Public Relations Coordinator for 19 years fostering internal and external communications, event planning, and currently serves as President of Hampton Roads Haven, a local homeless shelter for women.
Joshua Anderson, NEF Board Chair, states, “We believe she is the perfect fit and provides a seamless transition to the Norfolk Education Foundation as she’s worked alongside our previous Executive Director Carlos Clanton with promotions, planning, and special events. Her institutional knowledge of NPS, marketing, promotions, and non-profit management experience gives us the confidence she will be successful in this new role.”
She combines years of experience in public relations, leadership on community boards and organizations that adds to the wealth of her knowledge and relationships to continue the mission of the NEF to serve as community champions for public education so that all students have the opportunity to succeed.
